At the end of the third quarter last year, South Africa recorded a high unemployment rate of 27.5%. A young, unemployed man crosses a busy street on 12th Avenue. With an unemployment rate of 36.6%, the Free State has the highest provincial unemployment rate according to StatsSA, in 2018. The latest figures record that the number of unemployed people in South Africa grew by 127,000 from the 6.08 million in the previous quarter.
